Kettering Surgical Appliances Carbon Reduction Plan 2025
Kettering Surgical Appliances (KSA) is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050. To reach this goal, we have established a clear baseline of our carbon footprint and will reduce emissions year on year through targeted actions, projects, and investment. We have plotted a clear reduction pathway supported by measurable targets to ensure steady progress towards Net Zero.
Baseline Emissions Footprint – 2023
Baseline emissions provide the reference point against which our reductions are measured, representing the greenhouse gases produced prior to the implementation of our reduction strategies.

Progress and Achievements
This year’s footprint demonstrates real progress in our commitment to sustainability, with overall emissions reduced despite increased business travel and commuting. Major reductions were achieved in Scope 1 emissions and upstream transportation, showing the positive impact of efficiency measures in our operations and supply chain. These achievements highlight that growth and lower environmental impact can be achieved together, strengthening both our sustainability credentials and the service we provide to the NHS.
Emissions Reduction Targets
To continue our progress towards Net Zero, we have set the following targets:
- Reduce Scope 1, 2 and this subset of Scope 3 emissions by 50% by 2037 from a 2023 baseline.
- Reduce Scope 1, 2 and this subset of Scope 3 emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2023 baseline.
As a proud supplier to the NHS, we recognise the importance of the Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment and are committed to meeting the standards it sets. Alongside year-on-year reductions, we will expand the range of activities included in our Scope 3 reporting until all categories are covered, ensuring our footprint is comprehensive, transparent, and accurate.
Actions Taken
We have already introduced a number of measures to reduce our emissions, including:
- Installing solar panels on the roof of our premises
- Maintaining office heating at 20°C to reduce energy use
- Turning off unnecessary lighting
- Introducing a comprehensive recycling system, including composting and food waste
These initiatives have already helped to lower day-to-day emissions and foster a culture of responsibility within the business.
Future Commitments
Looking ahead, we will continue to build on these achievements with targeted initiatives:
- Logistics: Prioritise sea freight over air freight for inbound international shipments, optimise freight routing and load consolidation, and work with logistics providers to explore alternative fuels and low-carbon technologies.
- Operations: Adopt a virtual-first approach to meetings and conferences, supported by online collaboration tools; when travel is required, prioritise lower-emission modes such as rail.
- Energy and Infrastructure: Encourage staff uptake of electric vehicles, invest in hybrid or electric company vehicles, install smart meters, add further solar panels, and introduce automated appliance switches to reduce energy demand.
- Supply Chain: Make carbon performance a key factor in supplier selection and contract renewals, gather emissions data collaboratively, and incentivise suppliers to invest in decarbonisation initiatives through preferential purchasing agreements.
By combining internal action with supply chain engagement, we will reduce emissions across all areas of our operations while encouraging wider industry change.
Declaration and Sign Off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in line with PPN 06/21 and the associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been measured and reported in accordance with the GHG Reporting Protocol Corporate Standard, using the appropriate Government conversion factors for greenhouse gas reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in compliance with SECR requirements, while the relevant subset of Scope 3 emissions has been reported in line with the Carbon Reduction Plan Standard and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
KSA Carbon reduction plan was published 31.8.25 and was created by the company managing director, John Wolstenholme.
